Today I will be presenting a bio on one of the many guest speakers that visited us at the workshop this year.
Zac Ziegler has been interested in public media for as long as he can remember.
“I’ve been an audio geek all my life. I get to do something that allows me to play with audio and inform the public,” said Ziegler, a reporter with Arizona Public Media, the local NPR affiliate, which is housed on the University of Arizona campus.
Ziegler, a Tucson native, earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northern Arizona University.
Some tips to keep in mind when interacting with your audience, Ziegler said, are to “put yourself in your audience’s shoes, think about what they need to know, and mention the things … that not everybody else knows about.”
Audience members rely on hearing the reporters, so speech and content are extremely important, he said.
Content is best conveyed with a smooth bass tone that can come across as natural, he said.
Ziegler’s passion for his work is great, but he said there are times when the job gets a bit frustrating.
“Time crunch can be surreal,” he said, and it can lead to, “so many windows for mistakes.”
