More than a dozen high school students from all over the state are learning the basics journalism, and producing a newspaper
at the end of the week-long program. Elena Stauffer is the director for the diversity workshop.
Elena: "I would look at diversity as a number of different perspectives and voices, not the same ideas."
She says the workshop exposes students to a higher education setting that they wouldn't otherwise get at their schools.
Elena: "They get to live in the dorms here on campus they get to meet people on campus about what it takes to be a college
student, how to succeed in college and that's a very important part of our workshop"
The journalism diversity workshop has been at the University of Arizona for about 30 years. Stauffer says throughout the years each group of students is more technology savvy than the previous group.
