As he walked into the room, you could see the enthusiasm radiating through his smile. One could tell he enjoyed his line of work. The way he went into such intricate detail about his career revealed that he absolutely loved his job. This man was a true inspiration, a man who touched the heart of every person he encountered.
Born in the heart of Florida, Christopher “Buzz” Conover is a senior political reporter for National Public Radio as well as a part time adjunct professor at the University of Arizona. Born in the heart of Florida, Conover was given the opportunity to intern at a local radio station in Miami 1989. It was here that he met his mentor Henry Barrow, to whom he still reaches out for advice to this day about different interviews and job opportunities.
Through his work in Miami, he became completely and utterly hooked on radio broadcasting. Eventually he was offered a position to anchor a nightly news show while still working at the radio station.
Throughout his successful career, Conover has been able to take part in some amazing projects. He has interviewed each U.S. president since George H.W. Bush and even had the honor of interviewing civil rights activist Rosa Parks.
Whenever he finds spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities, including sailing, hiking and backpacking throughout Arizona and teaches.
While Conover admits that traditional journalism might be a declining profession, his message to young journalists is, “Don’t let it die!”
