fashion or flop: the newest trends in tucson By Faith Chadwick
Let's start with a disclaimer: I'm no fashion expert.
At best, I'm an aspiring Instagram baddie knockoff. If even.
Regardless, I love clothes. Renaissance dresses, gingham two-piece sets, paperbag shorts— if it's cute and trendy, it's going in my Pinterest board wishlist.
So, I did what any writer sick of fluorescent light and Chipotle leftovers would do: I grabbed my DSLR and my mentor/fashion expert Jamie and headed to the nearest shops around UA campus.
kaleidoscope colors
Strong geometric frames and vibrant hues are essential staples to add a pop of color to your wardrobe.
Iridescent chrome tops like the ones on the top right from Swindlers give off vibes that you're out of this world.
dresses & two piece sets
Matching sets are IN for 2019. Pictured to the right is the Glenda Gingham Cropped Set from Urban Outfitters (UO). Bold, monochrome prints are seen all over the UA campus.
Wrap dresses add a touch of style and sophistication to any wardrobe. Rock them with hightop Converse for casual days or pair them with a nude heel for a night out in town.
tube tops & paperbag shorts
When temperatures soar above 100 during Arizona summers, a tube top is a quick and cute option that pairs well with any skirt or jeans.
Paperbag shorts, pictured right and slightly up, from Pitaya, offer a modern spinoff of mom jeans with a cinched waist that adds flare.
dad shoes
Chunky dad shoes like the FILA Disruptor 2 Sneaker from UO have become one of the biggest 90s comebacks of the year.
layered necklaces
Layering necklaces of varying lengths makes your décolletage shine. Choker sets like the Stevie Delicate Double Necklace from UO and pendant necklaces cut down blocky tees and create a streamlined effect.
yellow
A common theme in all the shops along UA is marigold yellow! The three tops on far the right from Boutique 861 showcase the bright canary tones, giving off sunny vibes.
hair clips & rings
Large barrettes are a brazen addition to any hairstyle, upping the ante of a slicked-back brushcut or elevating a braided updo.
Stacking rings, if matched with other jewelry, add an elegant touch.
structured handbags
A straw circle handbag like this one from UO add a neutral tone to ground your outfit and blend tones.
neon
Anything Highlighter is here to stay! Fluorescent tones are an eye-catching statement pieces that attract attention from everyone.
