When I had to come up with an idea for a story this week, I was a little stuck.
I thought about the things that I was passionate about, and the things I was interested in. I tried to narrow it down by thinking of places down by the University of Arizona. I then thought of The Tucson Herb Store, a natural healing store on 4th avenue, and I decided that I wanted my story to have something to do with that store since I have always been fascinated by oils and herbs as a way of healing. It was also helpful that the theme was health and wellness, because it relates perfectly.
My idea developed one day as I was listening to a J. Cole song on Spotify. I was reading the "Behind the Lyrics", and one of his quotes was, "I turn on the TV right now, it's not going to be long before an advertisement pops up that says 'are you feeling down?' 'Have you been having lonely thoughts?' And then they shove a pill in your face. The first response of any problem is medicate."
This quote inspired me to do research on the opioid addiction issue among teenagers, and how natural healing and integrative medicine could potentially be a solution for the problem.
I got really excited to write this story, due to my interest in natural healing. I have also seen the opioid epidemic affect people at my school, so this was a story I really wanted to cover.
Mental and physical health is very important to me, and I am always interested in learning new information about it, and I have grown interested in the psychology behind drug addiction.
