The vibrant Mrs. Sharkey came to speak to the University of Arizona School of Journalism Camp today. She offered many great tips along with a gentle smile to anyone who may have been nervous. "Journalism will come easy to those who want to know more and are curious," she says while describing how she fell in love with journalism. She claimed she always wanted to be the first to know everything, something we have in common. When speaking of her journalism career she smiles, she tells us she worked at the New York Times and taught journalism courses at Columbia University where she received her Master’s in journalism. She made it seem as if journalism was the only career for me, the way she spoke about it was unbelievable. You could feel the love she had for her job and it could easily rub off on you as it did for me. "With that notebook in my hand I was no longer shy!" she exclaims when asked if she was ever shy, "Being a journalist and a teacher definitely broke that. I was running up to police chiefs asking questions, everything." She is the definition of a fearless journalist.
