Today I finalized my article and then began copy editing other students articles while Jane copyedited the blog entries. Despite my lack of sleep I feel like I was productive today and enjoyed the seminar of Ofelia Zepeda, Stanley Throssel, and Colton Shone. During the seminar Mr. Shone said “I’m a journalist, but I’m also human,” I connected this to the message Carmen Duarte was portraying earlier in the week when she talked about how constantly writing negative stories takes an emotional toll on someone. I also thought it was interesting that they both talked about the murder-suicide this year and how the sobbing women greatly affected them and their careers. I thought it was even more interesting that Duarte refused to ask them questions and respected their mourning and pain, while Shone asked his questions and felt bad about it in the following days.
