Today is Thursday and usually you see throwbacks like, Pretty in Pink, Clueless and Varsity Blues.
So today I also attended a throwback “boot camp”, where Fernanda and Andrea came from a radio podcast called AZPM, Arizona Public Media.
The ladies both explained what they talk about on the radio and basically like going back into the 60’s and just sitting there and listening to a soap opera or just listening to the news, so they walk in with all this recording equipment and all these papers with there laptops, I knew the “boot camp” was going to be long judging by the equipment, the schedule on the packet and what Elena told us it was going to be 4 long hours.
Andrea had us come up with a few questions to ask Elena for the interview about the Workshop and she had a 3 girls go up and ask Elena their questions while holding the recording equipment to get a feel how to use the different equipment, after that we transitioned into the stage of “quoting” Elena’s works to put into the written part of Fernanda’s website on AZPM.
We all went into different rooms to record our voices, Andrea had one room to her self and Fernanda had one so when they were recording none of the back noises got into our recording.
After we were done recording we walked into the lunch room and ate but there were only 4 of us in the room eating, until Elena said they were still fixing a couple recoding’s so we all grabbed our food and sat in on the talk about how they fix it.
They fixed some in front of us, except mine, she put headphones on because I didn’t want everyone to hear my voice crack or me laugh when I messed up, so after they recorded we got to give them our e-mail addresses so they could send us our recordings and they we all got to say our good byes while filling out our questions for them about what we learned new about there workshop and about what we found surprising about the news radio and personally I thought they were on like a music top 40 kind of radio where they only get like 5 minutes to announce the top news or the weather.
But I think I can speak for everyone and say that we all enjoyed it, we all learned something new, and if we could we’d all try to speak on radio at least once.
