Academic adviser Paloma Boykin graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. In the spring of 2008--the same year Boykin graduated from UA—she interned at the Arizona State Legislature. Shortly after receiving her master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University, Boykin started her career at the UA Office of Admissions, where her kind and nurturing personality would help thousands of students.
Boykin cares deeply for her students. There is no real limit to the kindness she shows her undergrads, fellow staff and faculty members. She is the kind of person who, when says she’s going to do something, does it.
Boykin feels that the most challenging part of her job is not knowing her next move. Nevertheless, she doesn’t regret choosing her profession and believes that her job is very rewarding. Boykin’s admirable character is truly inspiring. For example, one of her students wasn’t quite able to afford groceries, so she ended up buying a $100 gift card to Fry’s grocery store.
Boykin encourages her students to ask questions and feel confident, especially when it comes to being successful in college. Five years from now, Boykin sees herself back in school, possibly working on getting her Ph.D.
